Alright guys I need to have my carburetor rebuilt. Can anybody recommend a good shop? And, how much can I expect to pay? The Carburetor is an NAS3A1, for my A-65.

Around here we use Martin Induction Systems out of Enid, Oklahoma. Not cheap, you can expect to spend $800-$1200 for a complete overhaul. Lots of guys I fly with have used this shop for rebuilds and he does great work and will answer questions without charging an office fee. He comes to our fly in breakfast all the time and is just another one of the guys. Highly Recommend.

I used aircraft accessories of sebring , 2610 S. Lake Denton Rd. Avon Park Florida 941-452-2925 I still have the old bill I am looking at. My carb was a mess. It had been picked through over the years and it was missing 11 items. The whole cost was 326.00 I have never had a problem with it since. I guess they have a real good "old" carb guy....

How long ago was your carb worked on? I would have my overhauled in a minute for less than $400 however, I couldn't find anyone to do it for less than $800.

Holy Smoke!!! I am really out of touch. How can a Strombone (is that what we're talking about?) cost that much to overhaul? They are dirt simple, very few parts. I took the one off my Ercoupe several years ago, gave it to my dad (not an A&P) but knew more about them than most A&Ps. I watched while he took it apart, cleaned every nook and corner and hole, adjusted float level, reassembled, all in less than 2 hours. No...no parts were replaced. I gave it to my local A&P who ran a head pressure test, checked it over and put it back on the engine. Cost me $75 for the A&Ps time. I'm not saying this is available to everyone, but how can an overhaul cost that much on something so simple???

The same reason our annuals are going up. The good guys are moving on to the big airport in the sky and the youngsters trying to pick up the slack only care about the all mighty $$$.

Why don't you ask an easy question like which is faster; Champ or Chief!

I'm like Rodger, and rebuilt it myself. A gasket kit is about $30 from ACSpruce, and a new steal needle/seat is around $100 (if you need them.) The rebuild manual is included with the A-65 Overhaul/Parts Manual.

Oh Yeah! For the carb question (almost forgot) we've had good luck with Bolduc Aviation in Blaine, Mn. just north of the Twin Cities.

The other day I attended a funeral 126 miles from my home airport. Normally I could show an in-flight movie and serve snacks on a flight over 100 miles however, this day the wind was blowing right up my rear end at a steady 38-45 mph. Flew right past my fuel stop.

Made for a very exciting take off but once she was on course we were cruising at a ground speed of 114 mph. WOW that was fun at 200 agl.

before I spent 1200.00 on a carb rebuild I would call Bill Pancake who, if I remember, had words of wisdom on these matters and cautioned that some don't know how to correctly rebuild them and charge alot anyway. As mentioned before, paying this kind of dough for a lawnmower type carb. is CRAZY! 3-400 would be TOPS! I know a real good retired AI in western N.Y., a pro on carbs. That would get a big kick out of a 1200.00 carb. rebuild for a 65 hp. cont. He would think one was NUTS to pay that kind of money! Incidentally, Bill Pancake rebuilt the wings on my 140 Cessna and they were trophy type. In factit won two! He is THE MAN!jp
