Anyone have a ballpark estimate for a top end overhaul on the A65?
Thanks,

65 Top End Overhaul
Todd,
Just a personal opinion. If you have any substantial time on your cylinders and the bottom end is good, I would go with new Superior kits. I think they run around $3600 for the whole shooting match (less installation of course). They are advertised by engine rebuild and parts companies in Trade A Plane. The cylinders I've sent out for repair usually run in the $500 range each by the time they're cleaned, inspected, honed, guides replaced, maybe a valve or two, exhaust ports and studs, etc. plus gaskets, seals and rings. So you have around $2000 + right there.
If everything is in good shape you could get by for less, of course. Time in service seems to be the defining factor.
Just my opinion but you'll probably get others.

Thanks for the input guys. I am just starting to check on some options. My A&P told me the screen had metal in it that he found when replacing the oil temp guage. However at annual a few weeks prior, everthing was fine!? Bad luck?
Thanks,
Todd

Joe,
With the metal in the screen, would you continue to fly and do further checking or is this the stopping point?

Todd,
Depends a lot on the whole situation. What is the metal? Aluminum, copper, steel or ? How much and how large are the pieces? Magnetic or ??
How long since the last overhaul on the engine? Anything new show up on the engine like higher than normal oil temps or noises?
If you are really concerned put the screen back in after cleaning it (save the old bits) and run the engine for a bit on the ground to get the oil warm. Take an oil sample right now and send it in to be checked.
