C-85 - Oil temperture maximum?
Is there a maximum oil temp? The reading is about 210 degrees on a very hot day over about 2 hours in the air. 2300 rpm.

Where do you live? If your city or area was in your profile, it might help when people give advise, as things change from area to area.
I live in Phoenix and was flying at 0700 two days ago. OAT was 90 or so and my oil temp ranged from 180 to 190 in two hours of flying. RPM was 2200-2500 and altitudes ranged from 1000-3000 agl.
This is what a C85 that has 950 or so SMOH, no oil filter (has the stock screen) and no oil cooler and on a Chief.

225 is about maximum but 210 seems a bit high for normal operation too.
It largely depends on outside ambient temperature though. Part of the problem is that Champs and Chiefs, etc. are not equipped with oil coolers.
Some have had success with putting a 'blast tube' on the oil screen but I'm not sure if that cures the symptom (oil temp probe) or the problem. Makes you feel better anyway. Normal procedure is to make sure all the baffles are in place and tight. Also, the inner cylinder baffles which are often left out by 'unknowing' persons. There is also a mod on the lower firewall that helps with the air flow but most have that accomplished by now.

C-85 oil Max oil Temp
The Max oil temp for a C-85 is 225*F. Heres the a good place to find information on the C-85:
http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guida ... /E-233.pdf
You may want to check to see that all the baffles are in place and in good condition. Aeroshell 15W-50 will lower the temp a few degrees also. Also check your tach it maybe reading low and the engine is running high causing increased oil temps.
