Hey guys I have been corresponding with a young man up in Alaska that is wanting a plane. Of course he wants a Super Cub but like the rest of us his wallet doesn't agree with his desires. LOL
I have been telling him that he should try a Champ. He said he has flown Champs and really likes them but is wondering if they can be "BUSHED-OUT". I told him that there are several out there that have been built for bush work and that there were a couple of members on this site that flew Alaska with Champs. If I could get you alaska guys to chime in here so maybe he could do a meet and greet or just talk to you about using a Champ in Alaska I'm sure he would be very grateful.
Thanks,
Keith
Any Alaskan members
Bush Champs
I am amazed at the performance of my Champ every time I take it out in the bush. I have a 7ac converted with a Lycoming O235 engine, extended baggage which I purchased as a project 4 years ago. Yesterday I took my 15 year old son duck hunting on the mud flats. Before we departed I paced off the "runway". We were airborne in about 400 feet which is pretty good considering we had half tanks, gear and two large guys.
Champs can be "bushed out". Carl Baun has manufactured extended bungee gear that handle bush strips and skis better than oleos. Bush wheels has an STC for tundra tires on a champ. Champs can put on floats. These are all on my "to do list"
I regularly fly with guys with PA-11 and PA-18 aircraft. I can take off almost as short as they do but when I get airborne I have to power back so they can keep up with me.
A guy named Dusty on this board goes all over the state with his Champ, I am sure he will be able to provide info as well.

Thanks Mac,
My Champ is already "bushed out" I also have an O-235, VG's, 26 AKbushwheels (The lighter AirStreaks). Droop tips, and 39 gallons of fuel available.
I have skis and it is currently on PK 1500 floats...at least for a few more weeks.
I asked the question because a young guy that is up there in Alaska is wondering if a Champ would be feasible up there. I will tell him to check this site and he can read your post.
I have corresponded with Dusty before.....he really uses his Champ.
Thanks again,
Keith
