National Aeronca Association Bulletin Board

A friend on the board loaned me a set of original sun visors for the Sedan. Problem with them is that they had paper on both sides of the dark plexiglass to protect them. Well that was YEARS ago and its dried on both sides.

I tried soaking them in a water/soap solution for a day or three but the paper still is resisting removal.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to remove old aged and dried paper from plexiglass?

Joe, someone told me vinegar can help remove old bumper stickers. Might work in your case. I have not tried it myself. Use at your own risk. Let us know what you find that will work. Be Good. David J.

There is a citrus based product called either Goof-off or Goo-gone or something like that. Give it a try. There is also a similar petrolium based product. Try the citrus based product. It works well.

If that fails, you might try mineral spirits. It is relatively inert and won't cause the plexi to craze like other solvents might.

Goo-Gone works, slowly but is working.

Will hunt up some vinegar and see if that is any better.

My guess is that the paper on these visors has been there 20-40 years, so its not coming off easily.

I believe that kerosene was reccommended but I will check the instructions that came with and let you know for sure.

I've used WD40 or 5606, then scrape with a credit card.

Like Nathan sez--5606--soak the paper.. Sun visor, wow--that is what your ball cap is for.

I checked and sure enough. The folks at LP Aero Plastics state"If the paper covering has been stored on the window for an extended period of time,you will have to soak the paper in kerosene and keep it wet for several hours. You will then be able to remove the paper backing,but the adheasive will remain. This may be removed buy a 50/50 mix of kerosene and isopropyl alcohol. Soak a soft flannel cloth with this mixture and rub the window with the cloth. The window should then be cleaned with dishwashing liquid and water"

Avon "Skin-so-Soft" lotion is really good for removing left over adhesive from labels and stickers and such.

You would be amazed at what Dupont 3812S Enamel Reducer will remove and it WON"T damage plexiglas.
