Fuel Prices

Just curious as to the price of fuel around the country. Here in Northwest Wisconsin mogas is approaching $2.40 per gallon and 100 LL is around $3.00 per gallon

Good thing these old Champs and Chiefs don't burn a lot of fuel. I think my Cherokee is going to get a extended rest until my wallet and check book get over the impending sticker shock (or I win the lottery.....first, I'd have to play it, though)

Hi Mike,

Just paid 2.49 for 87oct at the local cut rate gas station. 100LL is going for $3.00 also out here in CA. It is possible to find it a few cents cheaper - but, you have to hunt for it.

Here in North Idaho /Montana area it is 100ll only and it is $2.86 gal. If you pay cash you get it for $2.66 gal. I had a plane with a 470 in it but sold it and bought a champion to ease to pain in my ass from my empty wallet.

Just got back grom A trip from Northern Mn. (CQM) to western Kansas and back in our sedan. Fuel Ranged from 2.65 At Pipestone MN to 2.95 in Nebraska. It varies up here in Northern Minn. Grand rapids is over 3.00 per gal for 100 LL Cook is 2.85 and I paid over 3.00 in Hibbing. Im sure that Intl. Falls Mn. (on the border with Canada) is well over 3.00 per gal for 100 LL. So in the neighborhood stop in Cook and Visit. Or fuel up, as we have plenty of fuel and need the business. We need to remember at a lot of Airports its fuel sales that keep them open. Safe Flying!!

Times like this the auto gas STC really pays for itself. Its still worth running some 100ll through the engine from time to time.

We are $2.20 a gallon for "mogas" here. Not sure on the avfuel as its been a while since I purchased some.

OK Gentlemen, I'm going to make you all feel a lot better.

Where I keep my Champ on south coast of UK:
100LL is $7.81 per US gallon at todays exchange rate.

and hangarage is $540 per month .....

and it costs $20 every time the Champ returns to kiss the grass.......

and I would not be posting this if my wife had internet access.....

I have to admit Rich, I do feel better. However, it makes you wonder - how much is the cost of oil, refining, distribution, etc. and how much of it keeps the Queen in Jewels. Out here in California, our taxes are so bad I have long since hocked my jewels.

Bob, in the UK about 20% of retail price is reckoned to be the cost of getting fuel from out of the ground to the pump. The remaining 80% of pump price is tax paid to the government. Still think your taxes are bad? And at least you get all that California sunshine for free!

In the Thumb of MI we're paying $2.45 for mogas. At the local airport 100 LL is $3.38 while at an airport 20 minutes away it is selling for $2.74 (for now.)
I sold my C182 in November because having to pay $40 / hr for fuel resulted in it not getting flown very much. The Champ is certainly more cost effective and I'm grateful to have it to fly. I'm looking at a building project that will give me something with Champ fuel economy but speeds between what you could expect from a C172 & 182.

To Rich - you have my sympathy for the terrible price you must pay to keep flying. You also have my admiration for keeping at it despite all the forces aligned against you. Your experience is a good lesson to all of us as to the importance of keeping the government from regulating or taxing us out of existance. To quote Mike Berg, "Free Skies Forever!"

I spoke to soon.
100LL is now $3.15 gal . Down south about 30 miles it is $2.89 gal.
Looks like you may be able to find good deals on Big bore engine airplanes in the near future!

On another site (Cheokee owners) I've heard of 100 LL prices approaching $4.00 / gallon after they get all the extra taxes, etc. I suppose there are those who can afford to pay whatever price, but I don't think I can justify boring 8-9 gallon per hour holes in the sky with my 140 Cherokee unless I'm actually going someplace useful. I know it's good therapy, but I can get it for less than half the cost in the Champ. Fuel prices may eventually drive "general aviation" out of business other than us "cheepies". Glad I'm not burning 15 gallons per hour or so.

Easter Sunday I flew down to a couple of airports between Rockford and Chicago and back home to Airlake. cost me $176.00 just for fuel. Kind of takes the fun out of it.

To make matters worst, I had a magazine titled "Secrets of the 200 mile per gallon carburetor. (that was way back in the 1980s) I also heard the gas companys did there best to kill that info. So the technology is there, but all there after is more money.

Recently Went to KSSI, Paid $2.75 for 100ll, After the AOPA discount.
It's $3.00 here at K47A, unless you pay cash. and about $2.80 at KJZP.
Car gas is $2.15, to nearly $3.00, depending on what octaine and where you get it.
