New kid on the block

I am a new guest to your forum and look forward to working with you all. What a great time I have had over the last few weeks reviewing all the information posted by you people. As a former Army chopper pilot I have wanted to find a way to have some fun and pay homage to Army Aviation for helping to bring me from a boy to a man back in my Viet Nam, Cambodia, Laos days.
The L-16, or something that I can make look like one seems like a fair tribute and with that in mind and I am hoping some of you can help me with some initial questions.
Is anyone aware of a source of photos of Army L-16's in Korea?
If I don't find a suitable genuine L-16 project can a 7BCM or 7CCM legally be made (mostly greenhouse I suspect) to resemble a proper L-16. This question is asked because I see that Great Lakes Aero has greenhouse windows for these models. Under what authority can they be installed in a non L-16 like the BCM and CCM? How about the DC which is not mentioned as being approved by Great Lakes for these windows?
As an A&P I have not signed off any of my own maintenance since I was in a 185 in Borneo in the mid 80's. During that time I certainly was not doing any modifications. Can someone direct me back to a reference source which will help refresh my memory concerning required logbook entries?
As a mechanic what other sources have I forgotten about that I should heva available for reference?
It is within my capabilities to handle a complete restoration however not having done one I know there must be certain points or times within that process when certain procedures must be inspected and approved (above my authority) before work can continue. Can someone direct me to a source of information or an approved guideline so that I can move forward with some sort of plan that will help me keep organized and help keep me from too many costly mistakes (as in covering a fuselage too early)?
Thank you all for your responses. The opinions of all who respond will be valued. When I can find the right project and gain some experience I will look forward to helping the next person find answers to their questions.
