Passing it down to the next generation

I had the chance to do something that we all need to do recently. A friend of mine contacted me about doing a flight in the Aeronca for her son's 10th Birthday. He loves airplanes and flying and she thought that this would be a nice thing to do.

Hard to beat this smile while taxi'ing out for takeoff

He was ready to take over just in case I faltered on the takeoff!

Of course we had to fly over his house for a photo!

So that means that he has to fly over the school to have something to show in class the next day.

After 15 minutes of flying I told him I was tired and he needed to take over. For the next 45 minutes I could not get the controls back! He actually did a very good job.

After landing. I have to add that both Mom and Dad were sitting in the back seat during the flight. Now, several days later the Father is contacting me about learning how to fly.

We all need to pass our love of flying along to people who are interested. Doing something like this is a good start.

Nice job, Joe. We all need to do more of that. We have our Young Eagles day coming up in mid-June. We flew 70+ kids last year.

Agree and the Young Eagles is an excellent program!

Same here and if we all can do this to one person and pass it along, it will do wonders to our addiction called flying. Most people do not know anything about private airplanes and exposing them to how much fun it is can only help.

Great pictures Joe! Looks like he had a great time, the parents were a bonus.

I fly young eagles in the Champ, usually manage 4 each day I go...keeps me hopping. It's a great feeling. I let each one take the controls if they want to and take a picture over my shoulder to email them. ironically many parents don't take advantage of the free picture...

Your plane looks great too!
