Strut rebuilding

Post by john-ranger »

I seem to recall that someone rebuilds struts (bounce - no-bounce). My annual was just completed a few weeks ago. After about a week there was fluid on the floor of the shop. My A&P had put in the requisite amount of fluid in the struts the previous week during the annual. It had never leaked before as far as know. He is advising me that rebuilding the struts maybe very difficult to rebuild as the previous owner welded a part (I think a bushing in place). I thought I talked to or heard about someone who specializes in rebuilding these things.

My A&P talked to David Rude. He thought the oleo struts were probably fine. "Probably overfilled with fluid". The fact that they are not leaking anymore is a good sign. He recommended 8 1/2 ounces of fluid. Check to see if they leak after that.
