RUDDER PEDAL SPRINGS

Post by leeport33 »

I have need of the two rudder springs overall length 7 3/8 " length without the hook ends 6 9/16" pitch Dia 7/16 wire Dia .063 No. of coils
105 springs are for my 1948 11CC Chief. Might have to check with
Acd Hardware and see if they can come up with something that will work.
This probably isnt anything critical, however there is an original drawing
number 1-196 Aeronautical Corp. of America that I have. not a lot of
help as I know nothing of how to make a spring. Drawing is actual size
however, so some help here. Any other help is welcome.

If you can, take the old one to your ACE aircraft supply (funny how the sign says hardware) and see if they can match them.

Joe, you are right again. Ace is the place. got my springs there
and they are perfect. they werent hooked up right to begin with and
now everything is smooth and like its supposed to be. folks do some
strange things to old airplanes. springs were hooked up to the rudder cable adjust holes in the plates. OH Well. left spring about an inch to long and the right one about 1 1/2 inches short. makes for a stong push
and uneaven operation. new springs are a little thicker, but not to much
and sure makes a difference. Ace Aeronca aircraft parts. hope they
dont raise their price on things, now that they are an airplane parts
supply house. The springs were the correct length according to the
Aeronca Drawings.

Glad it worked out for you. Remember, much of what is used to build these old airplanes is 1930's tractor tech.

Joe,

I think you may have been a little optimistic with the 1930's technology thing. The gas gauge is 1920's. :P
