Another question. Mags.

My "46 11AC has what i'm guessing are the original "non-impulse" mags. i am a little nervous starting it as i understand i have a much greater chance of "kick back" with these mags plus starting with out an impulse is not as easy.

What are my options of changing these mags?

I had Slicks on my Chief and with the impulse on one side it was a lot easier to start.

I have an 11AC Chief and it kicks back when it's a little flooded. It's no problem if you have the right technique and swing the prop properly. One way or another, you can't get in the arc of the prop when starting. Again, you don't hook your fingers over the edge but use your palms and a little friction on the front of the blade to get the spin. By the time you are at top of compression, you are already starting to let go and the prop spins over the top to start or kick back. If it does kick back I usually walk around a bit, let the excess gas flow out of the filter and by then it's ready to go.

The best technique I have is to turn the gas on when I come up to the plane, then pull the prop backwards through four or five blades. Then one or two forward swings, switch off. Preflight and fuel shut off and it usually starts on the first five pulls. Without an impulse it takes longer to prop. This technique lets the gas vaporize in the engine. No prime needed.

But every A65 has its own personality.

About 7 years ago, I traded my Bendix for a pair of impulse coupled Slicks on a package plan from Maddituck. Been super happy with them. Easy start, no kickback. However, with Slick now owned by Bendix, the prices on them have shot up considerably.

I have eislman (speeling) mags on mine, two impulse two non.
Flip to Left mag & starts 1st flip switch to Both mags takes 7-8 flips
