I'm thinking of using the AC23-27 (5/18/09) advisory circular for parts and material substitution for vintage airplanes which has brakes referenced within. For backup documentation I see there are STC's out there for brake conversions.

Can anyone tell me if the any of the following aircraft share similar axles and brakes set-ups as the L3?

7AC,7BCM,7CCM, 7DC,7EC,7FC,7GC,7GCA,7GCB,7HC,7JC,7KC

The question is, what is the axle size on the L3? 1.5 inches?

If yes then you have lots of options. Do not forget the Chief as well as the Champ. They used the same wheels and brakes and that doubles your chances on finding parts.

Looking at drawing 2-192 (Assembly Landing Gear Wheel Axle) it states: 4130 tube 1 1/2x.120 x 14 then goes on to say: 1.4997 1.4990 finish grind.

Lenght from the collar or ring (drawing 1-704) to end of the axle is is 7 3/16

I am not looking for parts as I have Cleveland wheels and brakes, I just need to complete the paper trail as the prior owner bought a conversion kit and put Cleveland wheels and brakes on the L3 but I can't find the paperwork even though I received a folder with all the Aeronca landing gear drawings and Cleveland installation instructions. Someone wrote form 337 on the envelope but neither the FAA or or I have the 337. I found on the websearch last night that there are several STC's out there for Aeronca's just not the 0-58 or L3.

Therefore, I'm thinking I need to start the field approval process from the beginning and using AC 23-27 as my guide and point to STC's already on file for Aeronca's at the FAA for the conversion as they use approved manufactured parts. This is why I ask if any of the models I mention share the same axle for the models I posted that are in the approved STC's. If any models match axles I think this may make the whole conversation faster and smoother with our local FSDO.
