J.D. HOLBROOK back with question? BRAKE CLIPS ON CLEVELAND BRAKES? Starting to run out of them an they get way to mutch for them. I started to build a set of dies to stamp out some. Not a problem ! But the dilemma ive got is I can reproduce parts for my aircraft ? But not for others ? RIGHT! What ball of worms do I get into by selling them , I know the feds love to nail people. An anyone have the orginial print an certs on these critters. any suggestions ? chime in I know this has poped up before somewhere. J.D. Holbrook WARSAW IN.

You cannot legally sell them.

I have heard of people giving them away but charging them for "shipping and handling" and telling them that the clips need "finishing work" (which is legally needed under the FAR's I believe) that the person you are sending them to can do.

You give the clip away for free, but charge $10 or $20 each for shipping and handling as needed to recover some of your costs.

An owner/operator is considered a producer of a part, if the owner participated in controlling the design, manufacture, or quality of the part. Participating in the design of the part can include supervising the manufacture of the part or providing the manufacturer with the following: the design data, the materials with which to make the part, the fabrication processes, assembly methods, or the quality control procedures.

Have the customer email you a drawing or specs..... that you happen to supply them in a previous conversation.
Or have them send you an old clip that you "reverse engineer."

This is how Dawley Exhaust could "rebuild" my non-existent Hanlon-Wilsons.

NATHAN K Thanks , is that from the FARS? I was wondering if anyone had ever seen a print or copy of drawings, or were they made by outside source,or did they come from cleveland with the wheels to the factory! thanks J.D.

YES ! The disc brakes. Thanks for the FAR . I was originaly apprch by some luscomb drivers some time ago . Thats when I started laying out the dies. I pretty mutch have things around . But I"d love to know exactly whitch Grade of H.C. steel they used. J.D. Hlobrook

I was asked to fabricate Goodyear brake clips. In the process of looking for example pieces I found a surplus of original clips still in the Goodyear packaging, dated 1950's.

There are metallurgy facilities and even NDT departments that can identify the material for you.

YES I,M aware of that ! I have a rockwell tester in my tool shop. An I can send old clip out for cem test for carbon content. But I was hopeing to find the spects somewhere. You never know unless you ask. Alot of the old proces, are done differently nowdays. Thanks J.D. Holbrook But I guess its probaly locked up in goodyears valts or dist.
