National Aeronca Association Bulletin Board

can anybody tell me what the "improvements" are on the new rear seat the ACA sells. I am guseeing it is using a larger bolt and maybe a larger lug. Just curious. I have a friend with a scout that may need a new seat or a repair. thanks for the help.

Have seen them that had larger metal "webbing" in the back and bottom. The seats were designed for people who weighted 170 pounds, the old FAA standard weight. Not "big boys" like Nathan and me who weigh another 50 pounds more!

Actually I think ACA needs some cash flow, so they throw out this seat AD because it worked in 1990ish. But that's just the pessimist in me talking.

They add a few stiffeners to the seat and change the pivot slightly. It's not a big improvement.
At the flight school we bought replacement seats for the first AD in the 90's. They were installed in the front and the best of the repaired seats were installed in the back. Now that the new AD covers the rear seats you get to buy more seats.
I would install a soild seat and be done with it.

I was thinking the same thing but we cant really change the AD. If the upgrades were not that difficult I was thinking of comming up with an AMOC for the AD. I guess a guy could just weld up the hole and drill it out to the correct size so that it has less than .015 slop. we will see. thanks for all the info.

If you could get a copy of the blueprint wonder if that would not be possible?

i doubt ACA will give out the drawing but a simple reverse engineering of the seat shouldnt be that hard to do. then a simple little repair you can pay your favorite welder to do. I would guess you could get it done for less than the price of the new seat.
