Lets get this started
This is a new forum for everyone to discuss instructors and hopefully provide contact info for people interested in helping new LSA or tailwheel pilots.

Re: Lets get this started
Hello!
I'm a recent tailwheel convert. I was a CFI prior to the TW endorsement. Now I wish the TW endorsement was required to get the CFI. I feel like a far better stick and rudder pilot after 40 hours in the Chief.
I won't do TW endorsements quite yet. I'll wait until I have at least 100 hours before claiming that level of proficiency.

Are there still two J-3 Cubs being used for flight instruction at Waynesburg? I used to see them now and again a couple of years ago, but I haven't seen either of them in quite a while. Joe H.

I know that there is at least one and possibly two Champs at Falcon Field here in the Phoenix area that are used for instruction.

Nope -- one was wrecked a few years ago, the other sold, I think?N86250 wrote:Are there still two J-3 Cubs being used for flight instruction at Waynesburg? I used to see them now and again a couple of years ago, but I haven't seen either of them in quite a while. Joe H.
Very little flight instruction activity locally -- insurance rates make it prohibitive except for those who want to lose money or have fleet rates.

Too bad, it was nice to see young guys out flying cross country sometimes solo in those Cubs. It was a neat throwback to the past.

I'd provide dual in my Chief, but 65 HP just isn't adequate to lift two grown adults in anything warmer than 60 F.N86250 wrote:Too bad, it was nice to see young guys out flying cross country sometimes solo in those Cubs. It was a neat throwback to the past.

Jim Nohlquist, lives just east of Buffalo. Retired Airline Capt. CFI, owns two Champs and flys a Chief alot. Jim Weighs over 230 and the Chief owner is about the same. They cruise around in the Chief all summer, runway about 2600 feet. Its a 65hp. in nice shape. Jim teaches T/W and can be reached at 716 664 1784. JP

The biggest hurdle I've ran into so far w/ LSA and tailwheel is that the students that want sport pilot ratings instead of private are typically much older students (65+). They just don't have the reflexes required by the L-3.

Re: Lets get this started
They are using my old Champ for tailwheel instruction at Peachstate Aerodrome, Williamson, Georgia. Surprised Mr. Hammond hasn't mentioned it, but maybe he did. There are a number of good tailwheel pilots/instructors around that come from the era when most stuff was tailwheel but don't have the desire to jump through the FAA hoops. Some of the best.
