A few questions: if a A-65 has a flange crank, is that crank the same one as used on a C-85? When did they stop making the taper cranks, and start with the flange units? I was just wondering.

Re: A-65 Taper and flange cranks...
Mike,
Taper flange cranks and flange cranks were made at the same time. I don't know when Continental stopped the taper cranks.
The A65 and C85 cranks share a common part number but have some physical differences.

How can they share the same part number if they're physically different?Paul Agaliotis wrote:Mike,

That could pose a problem at OH time.
"I need a crank, partnumber OU812". and you get part number OU812, but it's different than the one you need. Hmmm.
Or is the part number actually different? Like mabe, OU812/65, and OU812/85?
Thanx

No Shorty,
They share the same part number, that's the confusing part.
Back to Mikes point, the C90/O200 parts manual show a tapered shaft. I have never seen a taper shaft for these engines. It could be for a very early application.
