boot cowl fastener
boot cowl fastener
Can someone tell me what type fastener Aeronca used to fasten the lower boot/fuselage cowl ? My 7AC had two rather long srews with a nut on one end but I have not been able to find anything like that anywhere. The Aeronca manual only refers to a fastener but no pics. Thanks all, Dave Griffith N2908E '46 7AC

I just looked and do not have any pics of this area. Seem to remember its only one or two long bolts that go through the mounting on the cowl and are held by a single fiber or nylock nut.

Re: boot cowl fastener
This is not a Champ but the fastener is the same and the Champ only has two.
With the cowling closed, measure the length of bolt you need and order two bolts with nyloc nuts. On mine the bolts are slightly different lengths.
Just a guess, but I think they are AN4's which is 1/4" dia.
I much prefer the bolts over screws, it's easier to hold the socket and wrench on the bolt as opposed to having a screwdriver slip off and scratch the paint.
PS, I like the way he routed his brake cables out the belly with gromets.
