Cleveland mechanical brake return spring + newbie

Post by jleavitt »

Greetings,

My name is Jim Leavitt. For many years I was on the faa list but it got to where the email based format became a burden, so I got off the list and took a break. I have dropped into this forum from time to time and see a lot of familiar names are here, so I feel right at home.

Getting back on task now, one of my brake return springs broke the other day. I found they can be had from Univair but Bill (at Univair) said the things cost, gird yourself, about 48 bucks each! He said Cleveland wants to get away from the old mechanical drum brakes, thus the exorbitant price.

Can anyone steer me towards a realistic remedy?

Thanks,
Jim Leavitt

Believe that someone on the list, either Mike K or Mike B has some or has been known to make them.

Might get ahold of him or hopefully they will chime in.

Good to see you here!

Jim, glad to have you here. Both lists are good people. I lurk on the FAA, but post more here. The format is a little tough for me. Still, John has a good forum going. Wonder what a shrink would say about us not liking the format.....Be Good! David J.

That's good enough to be a weatherman in Oklahoma. I'm reconsidering leaving on the 16th to allow for weather.

Chris,

Have to chuckle at your comment. I am on the fence right now about spending the $100 or so for a months worth of XM aviation weather and radar on my Garmin. Have not used it in the past but also have had to weave in and out of storms and wished I had more info. Hmmm, sure keeping a look on the weather as we get closer to next weekend.
