Champ Wing Spar Repair or Replacement

Post by pilotspeedo »

Can anyone recommend a good source for Champ wing spar repair or replacement near the Texas panhandle area (North Texas)? I was hoping for Texas, Oklahoma or other nearby states. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Chuck,

Welcome on board!

First off I have seen a gent in the hill country in TX who from time to time sells overhauled wings that are up in fabric. He advertises in either Barnstormers or Ebay and the price while not cheap is not that expensive.

Might keep an eye out there. Chris Hiatt knows of a gent in his area (Ponca City) who does good restorations that you might look at.

Hope this helps...

Thanks, Joe. I will see if I can locate the two folks you mentioned. I saw where there was a Tri-Traveler flying out of Ponca Ctiy, OK. I will see if I can find his name. Didn't Chris Hyatt fly with him?

Chris flew the Tri-Champ and the gent who restored this airplane is the guy I am talking about.

Chris says that he is excellent with dope and fabric airplanes.

His name is Ed Jones and you won't find anyone who knows more about tube and fabric. His number is 580-767-9097 he just started a PA11 rebuild but I'm sure he will work with you on a covering. Like I said there are none better in these parts.

FYI, I just flew the Tri-Champ today in 40 mph winds. I'm sure going to miss that little bird.

Really do not want to hear this anymore! You know that Gregg H will take payments on the FC sitting in Oregon! Make a deal with him! :)

Joe,
I was hoping to make it to Hood River for the Fly-in and take a look at it. I need to have my spy network check it out. I just finished a C85 that I could ferry it home with, IF, I could find a FAA guy to ok it. I don't have any C90's. The last one I knew about ended up getting stolen from a guy in Arizona. Sorry, bad joke.
I think that a 7FC on the line at Red Sky Aviation might look pretty good. It's kind of a bad time to add airplanes, but they don't come around when it's good times.
