Hello, This is Henry I own a 1946 7ac with a cont 0-200.
I was wondering what the best climb prop would be?
I currently am using a 74in with a 44 pitch.
any suggestions would help, thanks.

Not sure what STC your engine has been installed with, but if it is with the Wagner STC, it lists the eligible props on the STC. My Champ has an O-235 and I think the prop is a 42 pitch. I may be wrong though since I am not near it to look in the logs. It was build specifically for float flying so it is not the speedeist Champ in the air. LOL

If you have a Buzz Wagner STC, there are no approved props that long, although I'm sure it might work just fine. The usual prop for climb is a McCauley 69x48 and 69 x50 for cruise. I always felt a longer prop would work better, like 74 x43 but wasn't approved under the spirit of the STC. Kind of funny a page or so after he lists the approved props for the STC he has the statement " A customer reports that in using the 0200 on his seaplane, the seaplane prop used on a Cessna 150/G worked well. It was a McCauley 1A90/CF 75" long and the pitch was adjusted to run 2700 redline and 25/2600 rpm static". Go figure

Thanks for everyone for your suggestions it seems I just have to find the prop that works best. I have a static rpm of 2300 right now so I know I need to go with a flatter prop.
If anyone has a prop that is 74 inches long with about a 40 pitch please let me know.

Henry, I have a McCauley CM 71/42 on my Champ that might work better for yours. Maybe we could work out a trade.

50 rpm per inch of pitch changed.
