Light Sport Pilot Training

Post by akchamp »

I need to complete my LSP training and found that Blue Ridge Sport Flight Aviation in Hendersonville, NC offers accelerated training in vintage 7AC Champ. I have previously soloed and passed the written and would like to finish as quickly as I can. Is anyone out there familiar with Blue Ridge Sport who could recommend them? Thanks.

Not familiar with them. How many hours do you need yet? do you need all instructor hours or solo too? Were you even signed off to solo? Just wondering about where your at.

John,
I had 15 hours solo in a 7ECA several years ago and am essentially in a restart mode. I'm hopeful that everything will come back in short order and thought if I could work it, the accelerated training would be in my best interest.

I have known Greg for sometime. While I have not taken any instruction form him, I know many who have. He is highly recomended.

Thanks for the recommendation Dave. Greg looks to have a nice operation there that would work out good for me. I plan on giving him a call.

Anyone familiar with Bill See and his flight training operation out of Centerburg, OH? He has a 7AC and a nice looking grass strip. Thanks.

Akchamp -

I don't know Bill See personally. His operation is near us. Our FBO is PrimeAERO, Inc. located at the Union County Airport in Marysville, Ohio, which about 15 miles northwest of Columbus.

We have an 85 hp Champ, cloned to look like an L-16, with full electrics, starter, radio, and transponder. It's treated as a normal rental airplane. We do LSP training in it, and in a Tecdnam Eaglet. You can rent our Champ and go anywhere in it, since it has an electric starter.

I think Mr. See has some sort of odd insurance program, where his students have to pay a significant sum for his insurance coverage, but ask him for the details.

Our program is very typical - our FBO has full coverage, and we require the renter pilot to procure non-owned coverage to protect himself. I'm not sure if Mr. See's program has any protection for the renter pilot - just inquire of him if you choose to go there.

Good luck, regardless of where you elect to train.

I forgot to say that Union County Airport (KMRT) has a grass runway parallel to our paved runway. We can use either one, depending on pilot preference. Our grass field is fully maintained by Scotts Miracle Grow, as the company is headquartered in Marysville, and the CEO is an airplane guy who has a P-51, T-6, a Cessna CJ jet, and a helicopter. He is a former F-16 pilot. Scotts keeps our grass runway as smooth as a pool table.
