The Japanese ...

I feel so sorry for the Japanese. They are truly our ally, and I would like to help them, but how? I did a internet search on "how to help the Japanese", and the same old agencies popped up, the American Red Cross, Feed the Children. I have read some really bad things about these two groups, and I'm not going to throw away my $ in that direction. So, are there any legitimate help agencies out there?

Agree and glad that we are sending help as well as a Aircraft Carrier to assist.

My wife and I try to help these types of disasters as much as we can with out limited resources but when you look at what's happened in Haiti (spelling??) for example, you kind of wonder if it's worth it. I'm going to see if our church (Lutheran World Relief) might set up some kind of relief fund to help out. Our daughter and son in law had a Japanese exchange student living with them this past year and she returned back to Japan (Tokyo area) when the school year ended. They finally got a message from her that she and her family were OK but no electricity and it was "very scary".

I don't know what percentage of funds are used for disaster relief, but I felt I had to do something, my money went to the Red Cross and I hope it can help at least in some small way.

I don't know if they'll be doing anything over there or not, but The Salvation Army has the best track record of anybody; spending very little on admin, advertising, etc.

United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)

http://new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor/about/fin ... formation/

You don't have to be Methodist, just have concern for your follow man to contribute.

Members of UMCOR were killed ( I believe 2 ) in the Haitian earthquake because they were already in Haiti providing relief whan the earthquake struck.

Not posting this to be a big "fanboy", just providing options.
