I am not a Chief owner but a Champ owner and I was looking a 1949 National Aircraft Blue Book at the gross wt for the 11AC 1250#, BC 1250 # w/a C-85-8 and a CC 1350# w/a C-85-8.
I don't have a Chief parts book and my question is the ldg gear on the CC the long stroke no bounce gear so they could raise the GW? Besides the horizontal tail were other fuselage changes made to the tubing (thicker wall or tubing diameter) for the ldg gear area to the CC? I see in the blue book the 7DC with a C-85-8 has a GW of 1300#.
Could you purchase a 7DC with the long stroke gear or were they all stock ldg gear for the 1300# GW? The 7EC parts books shows only the ldg gear with the no bounce gear and an old late 50's brochure I have of the 7EC's and FC's shows the GW at 1450#.
Were the early fifties ('50,'51) Champs made by Aeronca all factory grossed at 1450# and as shown in the parts books available with the long stroke - no bounce gear only? Obviously I have too much drying time between applying tapes on the fuselage.

Re: Chief ldg gear question
I'm not 100% sure but I think the gear is exactly the same between the BC and the CC.
I also know that the long stroke gear can be installed on a 11AC or 11BC but there is no STC for it so there is no way to increase the gross weight with the long stroke gear installation. The gear is allowable under a service bulletin I believe.
I have not seen enough true 11CC's to look at to see if they have the long stroke gear or not.
I also believe there was some additional cross tubes or some other "beef up" done to the 11CC fuselage. The TCDS shows a different weight and balance chart for allowable CG for the 11CC as compared to the AC and BC models. I don't know if there were any changes (beef up) to the wing or wing spars or struts for the CC model either. However with more weight the engineers must have thought they needed something more to the tail to add the balanced elevators.
Don't know if this answers your question or not.

Re: Chief ldg gear question
I'm working on an 11CC and it has the standard gear, I am assuming that is the way it came. There seems to be a additional cross braces in the wing from the AC , That's about all I can tell you. Hope it helps.

Thank you flying fool (real name ?) and Bart for the feedback on differences and same ldg gear parts for the 46-48 Chief family. Thanks again.....Gordy
Re: Chief ldg gear question
I thought the only difference between the bc and the cc was some diagonal tube stiffeners near the firewall or somewhere up there, for float applications (stiffened it)
Re: Chief ldg gear question
As well the CC has the balanced tail feathers. Aside from these items as far as I know the planes are the same.boris48 wrote:I thought the only difference between the bc and the cc was some diagonal tube stiffeners near the firewall or somewhere up there, for float applications (stiffened it)
