Ignition Harness

Post by MikeB »

Even with the shorter 37BY plugs the left front spark plug wire is a pretty tight squeeze under the nose bowl on my L16/0200 conversion. It does fit but I'd like more clearance if possible. Is there such a item as a 90 degree adapter? (Rather than putting a bump in nose bowl).

Mike, there is a 90* spark lead for both Bendix and Slick mags, but they will actually stick up higher than a regular lead. I debated running 90* leads until looking at them side by side.

Nathan,
Thanks, that's what I kind of thought as it takes some metal to make the bend, too. Mostly, I'm concerned about the lead rubbing on the cowling but I'll have to insulate it some way. I can put some poly hose over the lead which may help. I really don't want to install 'bumps" although the original cowling had them. I suspect it wasn't a problem with the old non-shielded plugs as they were shorter and had different plug clips on thim.

I'm getting close to finally starting the engine. The carb heat box has been a real problem with the Wagner STC installation. My brother and I made many different aluminum angle adapters trying to get the air clearner to position out the nose bowl properly. Fortunetely, he's a machinest. Enough to drive a good man to drink 8) . The 150 mufflers and exhaust system arrived yesterday so now I need to cut holes in the lower cowl for the tail pipe exit. Things are moving along, though. I just look at it as solving one problem each day...... :| End of school year driving is taking up a lot of my time right now.

Looking forward to seeing progress on your Champ as you move along. Too bad about the spars, though.
