restoration

Post by tommy »

I am rebuilding an Aeronca Chief with a 65HP engine. I have the tubing for the extended vertical tail fin required for the STC for 85 HP. I am not planning to install an 85 HP engine.
I am getting mixed coments on installing the fin because it will make it more saleable. I would like some opinons on this. Thanks

Tom,
Some folks find the big tail sort of 'non-original' for lack of a better term. For a purist they might like the small tail. Both my L16 and my Champ have the big tail. I've flown both big and small and I think the big might be a little more stable in the air. On the other hand, it gives crosswind more to push on when taxing or rolling out......but that's just my opinion  .

Tom,

I would agree with Mike above. There are plus's and minus to both of them.

Make the airplane the way YOU want it to be and enjoy it from there.
