Another Starter for -8 Type Continental Engines

Post by rkittine »

Does anyone have any experience with this Starter for a Continental Without and accessory Case? It would be a good use for my cordless high torque drill! :D

indeed! A fellow at my airport has one on a 65 hp luscombe, (cont.) and on a T-Craft. Likes them. I have watched him start the Luscombe several times. works well. JC (It cost him about 2 grand he said.)

Somehow I could never bring myself to pay almost two thousand dollars for a Rube Goldberg contraption like that. Yes, I know, you're really paying for the STC, not the hardware, but it would still rankle.

There's got to be a more elegantly engineered solution....

Aparently there is one being installed close by where I live and I will get a chance to see it up close and personal. The concept is pretty good, but I agree that it looks a little Unprofessional to say the least. I do have an 18v Drill collecting dust though.

First of all, I want to say more power to them if someone can get a STC through the present 'powers that be' at the FAA. Having said that, it only makes you wonder when you try to get 337 approval for other items such as mounting a battery to run a radio or gps, better wheels (that don't crack) along with a hydraulic brake system that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, Brackett air cleaner, etc.

It sure doesn't look like anything most of the FAA people would be willing to approve. My experience is that there are certain people at certain FSDOs that are much easier to work with then others, which is why I travel 120 miles to the FSDO that I use rather than the 10 miles or 40 miles, to the two that are closest to me.
