L-16 history cofirmation

Post by cunninghamdb »

The L-16A I restored is N2036A, serial # 7BCM 248, (47-1031), assigned to the New Jersey National Guard, then went to the Vermont Civil Air Patrol. My Champ has the Aeronca Data Plate, and USAAC Data Plate. Would someone be able to confirm this information?

Thanks

Dave,
That's true as far as I know. If everything is there there should be two plates, both the Aeronca factory plate and the military plate. Lucky dog if you have both! Most are missing at least one.
My L16 is USAF 47-1180 'born' November 28, 1947 according to what records I've been able to resurrect.

Dave, What info are you wanting to confirm? Since you're registered with the Aeronca serial number, that number should be correct. The FAA CD will show the military serial number. You can get a copy of your military records from the "Air Force Historical Research Agency" at Maxwell AFB, Alabama. Let me know if I can help with this.

Thanks. Is there a web site for the Air Force historical records at Maxwell AFB?

Dave,
The information is not provided on line. You can request it by e-mail. The e-mail address is "AFHRA@maxwell.af.mil".
Request a copy of any information they have on Aeronca L-16A , USAF serial number 47-1031 (if the FAA CD confirms that to be your military serial number). It usually takes several weeks. Good luck.
