aileron bolts

hello, I'm assisting in restoring a L16A that has been sleeping for a long time, and will need a DAR sign-off when completed, most of the data can be found in the aeronca service manual and the L16 parts manual or other online data, we are attaching the ailerons to the wings and can not find anything indicating bolt size for the three bolts that attach the ailerons, I know this is a small thing, but if a DAR asks " where did you find the data for the bolts?" we'll need to have some sort of answer. thanks, jack, abilene, tx

I see you have your answer on your bolts and I have a question for you. I'm wondering why you need a DAR to inspect the plane ? I'm restoring an L-16A thats been disassembled for for 30+ years and I haven't been told I need a DAR to inspect mine. I would also like to add your serial number to my L-16A history research. This DAR thing is new to me too - I assumed all you need is somebody with Inspection Authorization after a rebuild to sign it off, more or less same as an annual - or am I wrong here? Talking as somebody who has never messed with anything other than experimentals...

yep, there it was right where we did'nt look, thanks! the L16 AC# LH 498 needs a DAR to inspect it to get an airworthness certificate, it's never had one due to being in the USAF inventory, or thats my understanding, BTW I have a 46 champ with AN 4-10 holding the ailerons on, looks like I need to get 6 clevis bolts before my next annual thanks again, jack

All the records I have seem to indicate AC#LH 498 should be an L-16B. Do you have the military data plate? I believe the serial number would be 48-498. I have the data plate for serial number 48-510.

Was the aircraft always in the USAF inventory? Or did it spend time with CAP and/or civilian owners at some time in it's life?

Bill, the aircraft is not mine, it belongs to my friend across the grass strip we live on, but I think it came from the c.a.p. he's having hell with the paperwork and thats a story all in itself, I'll see him today, and try to get you in touch with him, ok? jack propwash@xanadoo.com
