New engine time...

Well, got some bad news last week when I found out my Lycoming O-235-C has lost compression.... (40/80psi) Time for either an overhaul or a replacement. (Of course this happens when I decide to sell the thing....) I guess it had a good run since the last rebuild was in 1964!

I have the Wagner STC for the Lycoming, however the copy I have in the paperwork is from the 1970's, and doesn't include anything other than the O-235-C or C1 engines. Looking at the FAA site, the STC has been modified to include virtually all of the O-235- models, to include the more popular -L2C version.

2 questions:
1) Do I need to purchase this STC again to take advantage of the updated language, or am I included?
2) Does the updated STC include information on how to mount Dynafocal (-L2C) engines on the airframe? I'm assuming that a new mount is created?

Further, does anyone have any suggestions for me on which direction to go? I'm still planning on selling the plane, as having a new baby boy in December has my flying time budget at a premium.....

Options:
A) Sell it as-is.
B) Rebuild current engine - Topping it is a possibility, but not realistic being that the case hasn't been split in 48 years...
C) Buy replacement engine - Same model
D) Buy other engine - Dynafocal mount, or even a Continental O-200
E) ???

Thinking out loud - Ideally, I think I'd sell it as-is, however finding someone to take this off my hands probably isn't going to be very easy. So my second most likely option is to replace the engine with another one. Looking on TradeAPlane and Barnstormers there are O-235's to be had, running between $7k-14k. Unbolt the current one, slap the new one on, and put it back on the market... Then maybe sell the old engine for salvage.

Thanks!

Bob,
I'd stick on a O235-C1. Stay away from the L2C, it's trash. The C2C's also share the same crank using the SAE Type 2 flange. Your prop wont fit it, the C1 uses the Type 1 flange. You can swap the engine with your STC, no need to buy it again.
