Chief 3-piece top cowl positioning?

Hello all!
So you all probably seen my post "Going Solo" and as promised I have another question!!

So today finishing the boot-cowl, windshield, bottom and top cowling installation, I am somewhat confused about where does the center of the top cowl position? Does it go on top of the boot-cowl or does it sandwich between the firewall and the boot-cowl? Does anybody have any photos of theirs? I love taking photos, and I took many photos of this plane BUT seems like any important areas I failed at photographing?! Please understand this was my dads plane, I do have many manuals and books but none show particular areas I am having issues with so bare with me!! Your help is so valued and much appreciated.

Michael.

Michael here's a few pics for you, the top cowl goes over the boot cowl and nose bowl. The bottom cowl is the same. The top cowl has to go over the other cowls or you wouldn't be able to get the top cowl open to check the oil.

All of these pics are of Champs, but the Chief is the same.
Maybe think about modifying your top cowl to open on hinges like these 2 last Champs.
These last 2 Champ cowlings were done much better than other cowlings I've seen.

Hi James,

Thanks for the photos and additional info. My top Chief cowling had the very narrow center piece and thinking aerodynamically, I knew it had to attach on the top of the boot cowl and by chance a Champ flew in today and I was able to take a look at it and take a bunch more photos and I was correct and made the change.
I appreciate your help along with everybody else ;)

Expect more questions to follow!!!

Thanks again,

Michael
