Drum brake lining material
Drum brake lining material
Anyone know a source of generic drum brake lining material, 1" wide, 1/8" thick? I have looked into some vintage car/motorcycle suppliers and might find something eventually, but I though I'd ask first.

Hm, they might work on the Shinns, but they would leave a gap, since the drum is of a larger diameter. So I'd need to buy 5 of these at over $55 each! $275 to line your brakes! Ah, aviation, gotta love it....
I'm going to keep looking, but thanks.

You might want to check Don Jones on Ebay. He has new shoes with linings. He also has lots of other brake parts. As with all of Don's stuff, he does a good job.
go to: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Van-Sickle-Mech ... 37&vxp=mtr
or go to ebay and search for "aeronca brakes"

For generic material, find a good old fashioned brake or clutch shop. They usually can "re-line" things at their place and can sell you the raw material where you can cut it to size.

I should have looked in the obvious place first! http://www.mcmaster.com/#brake-lining/=lzqxzu
I ordered some of the high strength, 3/16" x 1" material at just over $4 a foot. Beats $275. I let you all know how it works when I get it.
