Yup! I know it's 95 degrees today with about 75% humidity but I noticed something on another forum I never thought about. According to the poster (on the other forum) an A & P is required to remove the wheels and install skis. Interesting as I never thought about it as it's not exactly 'brain surgery' installing a set of skis and one is legally allowed to R & R wheels for bearing service, brakes, etc. I recognize that a weight and balance change is needed but once that is recorded it basically never changes. Now I know that everyone who installs skis does so with his AP/IA but................?????? Any reaction/ideas??

Hmmm, that is news to me also! I guess I learn something new everyday. I had always heard a person could do it them self. Same as with floats.
Re: Wheels to Skis
If one looks at the list of 'approved items' neither skis or floats is listed but I can't imagine why a A & P is required to install skis.

Mike,
The way the FED's explained it to me was the initial installation was to be acomplished by an A/P due to work scope that was beyond the P/M guidlines. Any later install or removal could be accomplished as P/M. I haven't bothered to look any deeper into this because of where we live. Any snow I get comes in a tapered cone with syrup covering it. The guys up in AK are going to be the experts here.

Paul,
That makes sense to me. I suppose they could be looking at the rigging on the original installation but after that it's not that complicated IMHO. Basically I haven't had skis on for a couple of years due to heading for San Antonio to escape the Wisconsin winters Ski flying is a lot of fun though and the landing possiblilties increase greatly.
How far are you from the 'burning bush'?

Mike,
We're about 70 miles as the crow flies. Not even any smoke making it here. Pine Mountain Lake is a large aviation community with some real neat stuff, the've been evacuated. Actually after they get it put out, in two years you wont even know there was a fire. These hills out here recover pretty fast. With no ground cover the winter is the problem, slides and road closures.
