Does anyone have the locations of the holes for the trim tab cables where they pass through the elevator? The centers of the dollar reinforcing patches on drawing 4-565 don't line up so I don't think you would want to use them for reference.
Suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Holes in elevator??
For what airplane? I can tell you the location of the single hole in a 65TC elevator. Will that help?

Re: Holes in elevator??
Here you go Paul:
I measured the top and bottom holes on my L16 (Champ) elevator at the airport this morning. Top: leading edge back 6 1/2 inches and 5 inches from side, hard to get exactly from side due to angle but inline with trim attach tab. Bottom: 5 inches from the leading edge of elevator back and 6 inches from the right side of the elevator. Almost seems like the side should be the same top and bottom but that's what I measured. Maybe someone else (Dennis?) will jump in to verify the measurements on their Champ.

Re: Holes in elevator??
Thanks a million The plane has sat for 3 days while I get the courage to make some holes.
Paul
Edit got my courage up--trim-tab now operational all I have to do is set the travel.

Re: Holes in elevator??
Well, my numbers differ a little from Mikes. For the top hole, 6 3/4 from leading edge and 4 3/8 from side. Bottom hole, 3 1/4 from leading edge and 5 7/8 from side. Here is the way I did it. Use .020 safety wire. Wrap it around the pulley as the cable is routed and thence back to point of attachment on the bottom trim. Swing the trim so that the wire lays close to the elevator and mark the longitudinal axis. Now you have your side distance. Pick your best guess for the location of both the bottom and top hole.
From the leading edge, mike got 6 1/2 and I got 6 3/4. So I would look at a small needle hole at about 6 5/8 on the lateral line. For the bottom hole, Mike got 5 and I got 3 1/4 so you will need to eye ball it quite a bit but stay on your longitudinal line.
You will be close. Using a long knitting needle or small tig welding rod with the 0.020 wire attached, pierce the fabric in the spots as measured by mike or me and as eye balled. Attach one end to the pulley and stretch the wire to the attachment point on the trim. Pull it tight and note which way the wire needs to be relocated to be straight and adjust the wire. After you get it where you want it, then enlarge the hole with your solder tip. My bottom hole is about 1/4" diameter. the top hole is covered with a fairing.
I hope I did not muddy things up for you.

Re: Holes in elevator??
Thanks Dennis. Looks like he got it. I think there's some 'give' in outlet holes. Hard to measure from the side due to the angle cut on the elevator. I only suggested you since I knew you could walk out of your house into the hangar to get the measurements. Thought about you after watching the news regarding the tornados in your area. No damage....I hope??

Mike, "There but for the grace of God, go I!" We were fortunate this time. The area affected was about 30 - 40 miles south of us. We got wind and rain but no damage. Thanks for asking.

Glad to hear all is well...at least in your case. They're showing some nasty weather toward the middle east coast right now.
