Climb props

Did a search this AM for climb props used on 11AC's and came up with only a 2008 and a 2009 post. I am discussing this with both Sensinich and McCauley to get their respective recommendations and would like to add any Forum member knowledge to my fact-finding. I currently have a W 72 CK 42 wood prop and am considering a change to my 65 hp Chief.

Dale,
You could try a flatter pitch, say a 40" or even a 38" pitch. Just make sure you don't exceed the max RPM static. I would stay close to the length listed but might try a 76" long prop if I could borrow one. Now keep in mind that you're not going to go very fast with a climb prop and burn more fuel doing it.

Thanks Paul, I,ll admit to not being on top of this prop game. I was aware of the trDe-offs you mentioned but am not real sure how to quantify one prop against another. With the price of 100 LL increasing all the time maybe I can go to Mogas and reinves the difference in tanking up ! Are you aware of a ground adjustable unit being put into service on a Conti 65 ? Since I've not read about it, that is probably an unlikely prospect. But if you don't dream a little, you can sleep right through the best part of any show.

There are a few out there, Friedman-Burnham and Hartzell made some. Beech-Roby is an adjustable but is prohibited if Sport Pilot is your thing. Sensenich has an adjustable but I don't know if it's available for the A65.
You can install a manifold pressure gauge and the prop that gives you the highest manifold pressure at rated RPM would be the best combination. Props are kind of a black-art, nobody really knows how they work.
