Anyone have any Cleveland wheels or know where to get one? This is the DMB 1000lb 6" Champ wheel. Thanks.

If you download the Parker Aerospace catalog as .pdf file and do some careful searching on the wheel half part number that you desire you will find that it also used on many other wheel assemblies.

I did this 2 weeks ago and was surprised to find the many uses which provide alternate sources for the wheel half. I found a few of those alternate assemblies on ebay at that time.

Here's a little more information on wheels,
http://www.joea.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=112

Sometimes they come up on E-bay, but, they're not cheap. Swap meet/fly-markets could a source too.

Hi,

Sure but you will have to look them up in the Parker book on your own if you want to find what planes they can be found on.

I was hoping to get one of you guys to do the search for the wheel numbers as I failed to write down the results when I did it before. :)

But I will find the wheel sets if you look up that a/c usage.

inner wheel p/n=> 161-01600

wheel sets that use 161-01600 => 40-28, 40-28D, 40-58, 40-61, 3040(40-6), 3050(40-7), 3050A(40-7A)

outer wheel p/n=> 162-00600

wheel sets that use 162-00600 => 38501(40-8), 3070(40-5), 40-28, 40-28D, 40-58, 40-61, 3040(40-6), 3050(40-7), 3050A(40-7A)

the early piper tri pacers PA22 used the same wheels on their main gear, same number too. note: NOT the nose wheel.

Keep one eye on Grove Aircraft. Some of these legacy parts providers have increased prices to the point where it pays to get PMA.

Often increased prices indicate a general attitude of disdain - witness the latest on Slick Mags and Champion spark plugs.

We begin installation of field approved Grove brakes next week. The problem, apparently, is that the new Cleveland wheels are not only pricey, but also rarely available at all, and the old wheels are all either cracked or four landings away from being cracked. The aircraft we are converting went through four wheels in two years, and it is not a training aircraft. The latest wheel half arrived without a brake drum or collar, for a measly $600. Used!
