I'm looking for a couple A65 /75 cylinders. I sent two in and they are both cracked. Just dropped off a few more to be checked but I want to have some kind of back-up plan. They don't need to be overhauled just not cracked. These are +.015's.

I gave my spare A65 cylinders to the party that bought my Champ otherwise I could have helped you out. I think I might have one more on the shelf. Not sure if it's rebuildable but I'll take a look when I get out to the shop this morning. If it's any good you're welcome to it as I've cleaned out most of my A65 parts except for two blocks. Carl bought the cranks, cams, etc.

Just checked and I have one more. According to the piston it's .015 over and if I remember correctly it came with 'rebuilt to zero time specifications' with standard rings in a .015 over hole not to mention the loose valve guides. This done by a AP/IA I might mention. I just replaced it with another cylinder. Anyway it will need some work but you're welcome to it for the shipping. Let me know what you think.

I don't want to bad mouth all IA's but apparently this one must have needed a seeing eye dog as it said .015 right on top of the piston and he must have put standard rings in the hole. A cat could have jumped through the ring gap even though the logbook said "checked all ring gaps".

Hope you enjoy it. I have a few left from my third printing. One interesting fact: I just located the daughter of the co-pilots wife in Pasadena after much searching. Also, the sister of the tail gunner 91 years old. It's been my goal to get a copy to each of the crew family members. So far I've managed to locate 8 out of 11. The feed back from the families I've been able to contact has been very positive and the usual statement is: the loss of the crew member was hardly ever mentioned...too painful for the parents and siblings.

It's kind of tough when family doesn't return. My great uncle Charles Raney never returned from the Pacific. He was a right seater in a B25 Group, 5th AF, 345th BG.
I never met him, but when you try to bring up the subject it gets pretty quiet at home.

Now a power plant question: the C85 on my Chief project has some kind of a short baffle between each of the cylinders and bolted to the push tube crankcase housings. I'm guessing the purpose is to direct the air flow between the cylinders and into the lower crankcase baffles that's supposed to cool the oil. This would be in addition to the cool air flow that comes through the oval hole behind the prop. My old crankcase baffles were pretty cracked up so I ordered a new set from Wag Aero. These came with a projection that faces up between the two cylinders which I'm thinking serves the same purpose but I don't think there's room for both (or any purpose for having both). I don't see the baffle in either the C85 manual or the Aeronca manual so I don't have much to go on. My IA is 60 miles away or I'd ask him to take a look but I'm thinking you'd leave out the short (old) baffle as I can't see any other purpose for it. Unless it's something to stabilize the block which in that case it needs to be in there. Any ideas?? I've never seen these on the A65s.
