That collar and brake drum?

Post by bob turner »

Anybody have words of wisdom about how the collar and drum come out of the inner wheel half? I am new at this . . .

Owner tried to pry it all apart - I said "wait - let me check with my buddies".

Look on the outboard side on the inner wheel half.

Look in the area between the bolt holes for 3 small holes about 120 degrees apart that a drift will fit in and allow you to gently pound out that drum.

You have to devise a way with wood blocks or equal to set the wheel rim on while you hammer.

I have had to heat gently the wheel to get it to expand to make removal easier.

Go slow, be careful.

After the drum is off (with collar still attached) then take the collar off by tapping it towards the side of the drum where the bolt holes are.

Hope that helps, Dave.

Thanks. I was beginning to think it was heat-shrunk in. I also heard that it was machined after the pressing operation. I take it there is a very real market for a replacement that doesn't cost five grand?
