Dust Cap

Need one dust cap, for a 4028 Cleveland wheel. The one that covers the bearing with the three screws. It has a center screw for the larger hub cap attachment.
It appears someone did not bend the cotter key correctly and the inside of mine got gouged up badly.

Ron,
Just got two out and both have a groove cut in them too.

Will check the hangar to see if the others have that groove also.
Can send picture but its about 1/16 deep and 1/8 wide on both

Actually, the cap is thin, and with the groove in it, it is really thin in that area. Now , should I want to mount a hub cap to it, it is now structural to a point. If I leave it , I'm sure it will break off right over a school yard full of kids. Murphy and I are best buds. :lol:

Those darn caps are almost always worn by the cotter pins when they are not installed correctly.
You could always convert to Goodyears!!!

Paul: I know what you mean. Not a lot of room in there, and the pin has to be formed exactly right to give clearance. Still hoping there's one out there in good shape.

I had to throw out the Goodyear jab. When I got my L16 it had Goodyears installed and was missing "a few" parts. By the time I was done I was within 300 dollars of a Cleveland set-up. My brakes work perfectly, but in hindsight I might have been better off changing them.

ok. i'm picky also. it's easier to check the tire psi without the hub cap. bernie

Does anyone have an extra cap? Anyone other than myself know Don Jones out in Guam? He is a Aeronca fan like us and has access to lots of things that we do not and from time to time has found people to make small bits like this. Believe that he has made some Aeronca wheel covers and so on so its worth a try.

If you guys want me to contact him pls advise. I am not familiar with this part but is sounds like something that should not be hard to reproduce.

Nowlen: Funny you say that. Never thought of removing the caps for adding air and checking. I just keep swearing at them and wondering what kind of morron designed this?

Just looking in Univair cat 202 they show several that they call hub cap
for a 600-6 cleveland wheel which might also be the size you are looking for.
Might give them a call and give them your dim's or buy one if not right return.
They list 3 different ones from $177. - $97. each.
