Champ fuselage envelope

Hi all,

I have an Airtex fuselage envelope for a Champ that I am installing on a Champ. I am puzzled by an opening in it that extends along the lower left longeron from the tail post for about 4' forward of the tail post.

That opening is needed to install the envelope, you need it to allow the envelope to fit over the fin.

The puzzlement is regarding how the opening is supposed to be closed up. Each side of the opening has a strip of ceconite about 3" wide sewn to it for the entire length with a double stitch. Those seams are an extension of the seam along the lower left longeron that extends to the front of the plane.

It gives the impression that something more clever than merely gluing each side of the opening to the lower left longeron should be done.

Have you ever seen this type of thing before? What/how did you do with it?

This has been many years ago. I remember sewing it closed with a baseball stitch.

I was afraid that was the answer.

That strip of fabric that is sewed on made me think that you are supposed to fold that back and baseball stitch. Otherwise why add that strip.
