Modern Instruments With "Old" Dials

Post by Matt »

Does anyone know of a company producing "fake" original design instrument faces for new instruments like airspeed, altimeter, ......?

We are restoring a Sedan and would like to install troublefree, up to date instrumentation but still have the looks of the original (Aeronca-made?) equipment.

If no such company exists: Who does a really great job in servicing/restoring old instruments or old instrument faces?

Thanks for any hints!

Not sure if they can do what you are looking for, but this company has come recommended as doing instruments for Aeronca's by several list members.

"Just had my 1946 Champ compass repaired by Kansas Instrument Sales and Service, 3131 W. Pawnee, Wichita Kansas 67213. Call Carol @ 316-943-5505. I mailed it to them, and it came back looking like a brand new compass. Cost was $98 including shipping and Handling. It came back with an "Overhaul and Test Certificate". I recommend them highly."

After all, I have decided to only keep the original airspeed indicator and to replace all other instruments by new ones.

Here is what I did: I had my old, original Aeronca airspeed overhauled by KISS (Kansas Instrument Sales and Service).
They did a great job mechanically and optically servicing the instrument.
Within less than a month after shipping it to KISS, it arrived back in Switzerland.
Including a newly printed, original-looking face, the color arcs which I had specified and the required 8130-3 form.
A total of $145 (+ shipping) for the service and the dial work.

If anyone needs more information, you can email me or call KISS at 316-789-9721. They also maintain their own website: www.kansasinstrument.net

Regards,
Matt

Have a look at how my airspeed developed....... before and after

Matt,

Put the photos on a website somewhere and link the photos on the site to the forum post.

Glad to hear that you got things worked out.

Matt,

I deleted the old posts you mentioned but I cannot find the photos located anywhere on a website. Until they are uploaded to a website they will not be found by the bulletin board.

Can you check where you uploaded them and get back to us. Also you might send me a copy and will see what I can do.

Thx

Joe

Matt,

Looks like you put them on your server at work or home and linked to that location. We would not be able to access or link to this.

One other quick way for now would be to create your home page on
http://www.myplaneonline.com this lets you create a site for our airplane/project along with 4-5 pictures.

Once you setup your page and download your pictures you can paste
the link here in your next post and we can then go to your site.

there are many Aeronca links at myplaneonline.

here is mine
