Dashpad material

Post by StuartMDavis »

Just bought a 1956 7EC Champ. Yeah.

Need help finding the dash pad material. The top black vinyl is easy, its the 0.100" thick press board used to form the curve for the dashpad. We need a piece 48" x 48" to match the template.

Any suggestions on where to find this press board, or similar?

Thanks :P

Stuart,
I have seen some upholstery shops use this type of material for some of the inner door panels. It gets covered with the material after forming.
Also have seen some made from sheet aluminum and covered.

I used formed aluminum on my replacement so it was light and much less susceptible to moisture.

Not sure if it was OK to do, but I also replaced the rotted and warped plywood sheet under the nose tank with aluminum, but when my wing tank had to come out to have a leak repaired, the fabric that was cut out was replaced with painted to match, and screwed on, aluminum skin.
