I've borrowed a Sportys sp 400 handheld and purchased a Flighttech ITC-401-1 two place intercom to use in my Champ temporarily, the problem is if the radio is turned on and I plug the intercom in the radio shows its transmitting all the time, if I plug the intercom in with the radio off then turn it on it receives transmission but through the speaker on the radio not the intercom, I'm using DC 10-13 headset. I was wondering if the sp 400 which is a couple of years old and Flighttech intercom is compatible, the radio works fine without the intercom was also wanting to use my PTT button which headset plugs into then it plugs into intercom. Anyone got any ideas, was trying to get communication between CFI and myself until i can get my permanent radio installed.
Thanks Randy

No sure about the hand held that you have, but do know that ICOMs, Yaesu and Kenwood Hand helds over the years have changed from A pull to ground to transmit and a separate push to talk line. Should not have anything to do with your headset, but I know when I put my Softcom Portable Intercom in my 7CCM, I order the one to match my radio and it worked fine, though it would not work with my older ICOM A-20. Same with the Speaker Mikes offered.
I would call Sporty's and ask them about it.
When I ordered the Softcom they even wired the box for two PTT lines in addition to the button on the box and eliminated the stereo inputs. I ran wires down the side under the carpet and up through the sticks and replaced the wooden balls with bicycle handle bar grips with the holes in the end and put Momentary Push on switches in each stick.
All held on with velcro so it was a removable temporary installation including the battery under the pilots seat.

Thanks Bob, I think I've got it on track now, and thanks again for the information about contacting Kirk Price, he is close and willing to help me.
