looking for a servicable A-65-12 core for rebuild. originally installed on the mooney mite m-18. has crankcase and accessory case of a C-75 with starter and generator drives but with A-65 cyliners and lower end.. i don't know how continental got away with putting an A-65 cylinder on a C-75 case but they did because the displacement stays the same as the A-65. maybe a bigger cylinder base "O" ring ? or spacer ? the studs line up so you can bolt the A-65 cyliners on. bernie

I think what you are looking for is a A65-14 or -16, as used on the Mite.
And yes, Cont. used the BASIC C-75 case but used the opening for the
jugs for the A65 Cyl's. Check out the FAA web site on the engine, lots of
good reading. If you have trouble finding the correct parts try Don's
Dream Machine in Atl., GA. He is listed in Trade-A-Plane in the Cont.
Engine section. I would like to have an A65-9, it came with only a starter.
When you get into the FAA web site, check out Note 9.

teledyne continental type cert # 205 shows the differences. there is no -16 listed in the type cert. is it under a different T/C ? the way i understand it the -9 had provisions for only a starter( the 20 LB unit) and you can't put a lightweight B & C starter on it( talked to the factory). where as the -12 with the c-75 accessory case can accept the B & C starter and a gen/alt if you want. the -14 is a -8 with different pistons etc and no mention of a c-75 accessory case. some of the mooney mites had a full electrical system which would require the a-65-12.
trying to find out about this info is almost impossible. don's doesn't deal with any a-65 stuff but will gladly sell you a hopped up c-85 for mega $$$
finding a -9 or -12 is probably impossible. the mooney folks that are parting out won't seperate the eng/airframe
hope you can find a -9. i wanted the -12, because in the 11ac, the B&C starter fits without cutting any holes in the firewall and fuel tank. thanks for the thoughts.bernie
