Tony Markl on the fAA email list has been running a survey on fuel and our Aeronca's. Lets see if we cannot increase the information he is getting. This will help all of us.

Fuel Survey
1. Joe Abrahamson
2. Arizona
3. Mostly use auto gas, but mix in some 100LL every 5-7 loads of fuel.
4. Have not been using MMO but will start in the future.
5. C85-12 and believe the engine is 5-600 hours since top overhaul.
6. Two years.
7. None other than the standard check I do with the fuel.
8. None and do not know of anyone else who has had problems with automotive fuels in their Aeronca.
As long as the fuel does not have any of the extra additives I feel that its safe to use in our planes.

9. Comments: She burns between 3.8 and 4.2 gph, and AVGAS in NH is now $4.41 a gallon. Roy Redman, owner of Rare Aircraft Ltd, Oneaida, MN, (he and his sons rebuilt the WACO that the AOPA gave away a few years back) where I bought the plane, advised never to use MOGAS because there is no law which compels the MOGAS makers to reveal which additives are in their product. Not so with AVGAS.

Comments: In UK some of the mogas has upto 10% alcohol depending on manufacturer.
Tend for this reason to use 100LL when straying far and higher, mogas fine for local pottering about

I own and fly a Prewar 1941 65CA NC338888 super chief.Building new wings as we speak.Getting ready for a total rebuild.Thankfully I work in a shop that does this.So I will have alot of help

Seldom check for alcohol; but if I do I use the water method. Alway buy my fuel from the same Cenex station and their pumps are marked accordingly.
Never had stuck valves on any of my aircraft in 25 years of ownership. One of our flying club Champs with a A65 did have a stuck valve once. We dropped the valve into the cylinder and cleaned the valve guide with a guide cleaner and drill. Not sure of the cause; but might have been inactivity.
