Re: A65 makes "chuffing" noise, plus found metal in screen.

Finally found the problem. #4 cylinder wrist pin was crap and literally cracking, failure was on its way. Piston was beating the cylinder and causing the metal in the oil issue. This cylinder had good compression in October when we did the annual. I have attempted to attach a pic, hope I did so succ...

Re: A65 makes "chuffing" noise, plus found metal in screen.

Don't recall any gritty feeling. In any event, I will follow my IA's instructions and we will let everyone know what we find o...

Re: A65 makes "chuffing" noise, plus found metal in screen.

Mike, The engine has about 500 hours on it. Cruise pressure is in the high 20's once the oil has gotten up to temp, which has not changed. We just did the annual recently as well and the worst cylinder was 75. I have had the plane for 14 years, and have generally not had the loss of oil prime that i...

A65 makes "chuffing" noise, plus found metal in screen.

For a while the A65 in my Champ has made an intermittent "chuffing" sound. The best analogy I can come up with is it sounds like the dry speedo cable (needed lube) in my 56 Chevy back in the day . Until last week I never found metal in the screen, but I did this time. Rather chunky looking...

Cleveland mechanical brake return spring + newbie

Greetings, My name is Jim Leavitt. For many years I was on the faa list but it got to where the email based format became a burden, so I got off the list and took a break. I have dropped into this forum from time to time and see a lot of familiar names are here, so I feel right at home. Getting back...
