Friend is about to replace a gauge in a Champ.
Any top tips to keep it sealed etc ?
Gauge coming from Wag Aero and getting the tools elsewhere.

Re: Some people are full of CRAP!!
I think this needs to be qualified/tempered by the caveat, why are you selling an aeroplane ? Having owned 15 aeroplanes over the years, I can qualify the original statement and agree with it. I have owned 2 Champs and 2 Citabria's and would own another in a heartbeat. My Brother and I built an RV7 ...

I do know he is OCD and so did a very smart job.
As this is Dave's first airplane, I guess he didn't know it was going to be hard so just got on with it

Re: Where were you when 9/11 occurred??
I was doing a check ride for a guy in his new RV6. Similar to Joe, we got down, his phone rang - it was his wife saying turn the TV on - an aeroplane has just hit the World Trade Centre. As we turned the TV on, the second aeroplane hit. I thought - that's our business screwed........... It was

Re: Spring gear
Grumps, It would be  It would be a 7 ACA ! My buddy has a 1972 7 ACA in Zephyrhills FL, however............. It had 2 major accidents in it's past and now sports oleo undercarriage. In fact, mysteriously, the trimmer moved as well, so we suspect a donor fuselage was found !! Stay with the ole...

Re: which propeller for a c85
My last Champ had an A-65 with a McCauley 1B90/CM 73" X 43" I then converted it to a C-85 and the only change was to visit the local Rabbi to take an inch of each tip  It then became a 71" to avoid harmonic issues. Anyhow - the best prop I ever had - smoooooth, speedy, good tak...

My mate in Zephyrhills just did it.
Really nice job.
If you are interested, I can put you in touch.
Fitted the shoulder harnesses and new side windows at the same time.

Re: trouble with advancing throttle
As previously mentioned, these older carbs don't have an accelerator pump which richen the mixture as you move the throttle forward. If you are a little slower with the throttle, you should find the problem goes away. Try it to the count of 3 or 4 - let's face it, you aren't performance limited and ...

Re: Cleveland Cracks
I guess that's the difference from there to here.
Our Aeronca's are on a UK version of Experimental and satisfactory repair techniques may be used.
IMHO a good repair would be just as good as the original bearing in mind modern techniques etc etc.
I will advise my friend accordingly.
Thanks

Cleveland Cracks
My buddy in Florida has found a crack on a Cleveland wheel. Now, here in Blighty, we have a fairly practical approach to this. Dig it out, tig it back up, spin it on a lathe, carry on. It is cast alumin(i)um and therefore is weldable. Comments please - or does anyone have a spare C 38500 with drum b...

Re: Florida Drifting
Thanks guys. My buddy shot the vid, I spent a while putting it together in iMovie. Still getting to terms with iMovie but having read the 'idiots guide book' it was a lot easier. I was on a layover in Florida, had some great fun with good friends, got to fly the Champ again after some time away now ...
