Re: Champ/Chief hinged cowl

I hinged my Champ cowl. The 7DC had one. The Aeronca drawing for that is 7-787 I signed it off as a minor using that drawing.

Re: 0-200-8

If you want a -8 you can use your o200 case and send it to Don Swords and get the o200 to C85 stc and the -12 to -8 stc. Then you can use the -8 accessory case. You wont actually have an o200, but a C85, then use the o200 crank and get the STC to use that on your c85 and then you have a super C85 th...

Re: Value of run-out engines

Bob, Having just gone through my a65 and salvaging parts for my C85 that I am building I can tell you what was usable. Not much. My already ground .010 under crankshaft (tapered) was rejected for being cracked. I am building a -8 c85 so I could use my cam and crank gears, and my accessory case. In m...

Re: Overhaul'n

Just a note, Aircraft specialties has changed hands in the not too distant past. I would recommend Rick Romans to recondition your hard parts. They are next door to Specialties, and are very customer oriented. When my parts went through their shop I was able to go back and talk to the guys doing the...

You can try a product called Evaporust too. Some have good luck using that. You can find it at the aviation counter at Tractor Supply.

Re: 7DC-158

I don't think there is any Aeronca repairs for that, but I believe AC 43-13 gives repairs such as that for the repair of elongated holes. Those fittings are so cheap why not just replace it? I have seen them fleabay recently. You sound about as bad as me, I think I did about the same miles to pick u...

Re: C90-12 in 7AC

For those that don't know it, Don has an STC to convert the -12 to a -8, I believe it covers all 4 cylinder continentals. The STC number is SE01592AT - To modify C-Series crank case from -12 to -8 and the information can be found here: http://turnertech.wix.com/donsdreammachines#!contact/con8 I am n...

Re: C90-12 in 7AC

Wouldn't the easy way out be to get the STC from Don Swords and make the c90-12 engine into a -8? I know it would have to come apart and all, but it would give him a -8. I didn't get a warm fuzzy feeling about putting a c85-12 on my Champ using the service letters and eventually found a -8. After so...

I agree Mike, you don't get the same archive on FB as you do here. It's there on FB, but it is not searchable or easy to find.

Re: A65/C85 Crankshaft wanted

I need one for a c85. As far as I know the only one I can't use is the very early A65 one with the 1 3/16" holes through the rod pins. Rick Romans was going to certify mine with the 1" through holes from my A65 for my C85 build until it showed a flaw in the casting at the nose bearing.

A65/C85 Crankshaft wanted

The shop just told me my crank has cracks in it and they won't certify it. So, if anybody has a crank for sale I would be interested
