Re: Chief brakes discs and pucks
I gather that when the "hammer" side wears down , it can be used on the "anvil" side. hammer=3/8" and anvil 1/4" thickness. I also have heard that some have taken automotive disc brakes and cut them down to the appropriate diameter/ thickness.

Re: no-blo exhaust gaskets
Just a follow up. Trimmed the edge that was interfering between adjacent cylinders (both sides of the engine). works good now.

https://shop.classicaero.info/searchquick-submit.sc?keywords=goodyear+brakes classic aero used to have one side. seems I have heard of people making the hammer side and using the hammer side on the anvil side after they wore down. The accounts I heard involved using automotive brake padsafter cuttin...

Re: exhaust pipes - cutting lower cowling
I was lucky - the guy's shop is close to the KCOI. Ronny Waddell. Said he used to make piper & velocity exhausts. Saw some other projects - everything looked pretty jamm-up good.

Re: exhaust pipes - cutting lower cowling
I ended up getting 2 sets of wagaero stainless stacks. all 4 had "variations". a bunch of trips to a nearby machine shop that really know their crap. Both pipes had to be cut near cowling exit. Had to add about an inch - slightly wedge shaped. Avoided cutting the cowl. The flanges fit perf...

exhaust pipes - cutting lower cowling
I put on the wagaero stainless steel exhaust pipes. Now my lower cowling will not fit. Pipes flare out too much. Reviewed drawing 7-472. The holes for the pipes (n my cowling) are very close to the drawing dimensions. I have seen other aeronca's that have those holes cut up. Is this a common issue? ...

Re: Overhaul Shops
Hello, I went with a local rebuilder who is very knowledgeable about Aeroncas and C85-12F engines- Rainbow Aviation out of Moses Lake WA. The crankshaft (pn530196A 1) was inspected and re-worked at Aircraft Specialties Services . They said it was in good shape, met tolerances but unfortunately the ...
