Tail Wheeel Springs...............again

Thought I'd dust off an old topic. I just bought a 7DC and even though it's been a while since I've flown them, I felt the tail wheel steering was not as positive as I remembered years ago.

I noticed the left spring was about 1" longer than the right (same spring). I thought this might be some built in bias for possible shimmy. I asked the previous owner about it and he had no idea and wasn't aware of the difference. I'm somewhat ashamed I hadn't noticed it on my pre-buy inspection. BTW, I have a single side arm light weight tail wheel gear with a solid tire.

I just bought a new spring kit from Spruce (p 227, P/N 2151). I plan to put them on and see how she does.

Hi Mike, if you have a Maule tailwheel the PDF manual I posted in that thread is very usefull, if you have a Lang tailwheel then both springs should be the same, you can tell which one you have by looking at the manual. Both the Maule and the Lang are single fork/arms the Scotts are dual arm forks.
