Greasing the gear legs??

Post by CptKelly »

Our Champ's gear legs have a grease fitting showing about half way up the front gear tube. About how often should one pump grease into these fittings?

The Service Manual has every 25 hrs, 2-3 pumps, you can over grease them. Do not keep pumping until you see grease coming out around the bottom of the oleo, 2-3 pumps rock the wing up & down and that will work the grease around the bushing.

Like Mikek said, only a pump or 2. I happen to know from personal experience  you can fill the entire gear leg with grease, and when that happens, the oleo does not move.... at all! So you end up sliding the oleo out of the gear leg and removing most of the grease creating even more of a mess.

1-2 pumps every 25-50hrs just to keep some grease on the exposed oleo.
